IS THIS THE RIGHT PLAN?
Business Standard is the plan most small and midsize organizations land on. It covers the two things a business actually runs on — installed Office applications and company email — plus the storage and collaboration tools around them, for up to 300 users. This page explains who it suits, how it differs from the plans either side of it, and what moving to it involves.
A good fit when
Teams who need Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint installed on their computers, not only in a browser.
Organizations moving company email off a hosting provider, a legacy server or personal accounts.
Businesses up to 300 users that want one subscription covering email, files and meetings.
Companies standardizing a mix of Office versions onto one current, supported release.
Consider another plan when
Browser-first teams who never open a desktop application — Business Basic covers the same email and storage for less.
Organizations that need managed and secured company devices — that is Business Premium, which adds Intune and Defender for Business.
Businesses past 300 users, or those needing enterprise compliance and analytics features — the E3 and E5 plans remove the seat ceiling.
Teams that already license Office through a separate agreement and only need hosted mailboxes.
Business Standard compared with Business Basic
Both plans include company email on your own domain, 1 TB of cloud storage per user, Teams, and the web and mobile versions of the Office applications. The difference is the desktop software.
Business Standard adds the installed versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook that run locally on Windows and Mac — the full-featured applications, available offline, with the complete set of formatting, data and add-in capabilities. Business Basic gives you the browser and mobile versions only.
The practical test is simple: if your people build complex spreadsheets, work offline, use add-ins, or handle large documents, the desktop applications matter and Business Standard is the right plan. If the work happens in a browser tab, Basic covers it.
Business Standard compared with Business Premium
Business Premium includes everything in Business Standard and adds the security and device-management layer: Microsoft Intune for managing and configuring company devices, Defender for Business for endpoint threat protection, and policy-based identity and access controls such as conditional access and multi-factor enforcement.
The upgrade is not about productivity features — those are identical. It is about whether you need to control the devices your data sits on, prove security controls to an insurer, client or auditor, or enforce sign-in policies centrally.
If laptops leave the office, if staff use their own devices, or if you handle regulated client data, the gap between the two plans is the gap between managing software and managing risk. Business Standard can also be paired with Defender for Business as a separate add-on if endpoint protection is the only piece you need.
With Teams or without Teams
Microsoft sells every business plan in two versions: one including Microsoft Teams and one without it. The without-Teams versions cost less and are otherwise identical.
Choose the without-Teams version only if your organization has standardized on another meeting platform or already licenses Teams separately. For most buyers the with-Teams plan is the right default, because chat, meetings and calling are already built into the applications your people use.
Switching between the two variants later is possible but involves a subscription change, so it is worth settling before you buy. We confirm which variant fits in your quote.
What the annual commitment means
The listed rate is the annual-commitment price, paid once up front for twelve months. Microsoft also offers an annual commitment billed monthly, and a month-to-month term with no commitment — both at higher per-user rates.
Seat counts can usually be increased mid-term; reducing them generally waits for renewal. If your headcount moves seasonally, that trade-off is worth discussing before the term is set.

How a move to Business Standard works
01
Review what you have
We look at your current mailboxes, domains, file storage and any existing Office licenses, so nothing is paid for twice and nothing is missed.
02
Confirm plan and seat count
We settle the Teams variant, the billing term and the number of users, then confirm final pricing and eligibility in a written quote.
03
Prepare the tenant and domain
Your Microsoft 365 tenant is set up, your domain is verified, and mail routing is planned before anything changes for your users.
04
Migrate email and files
Existing mail, calendars and contacts are moved on a staged plan with a pilot group first. Mail keeps flowing during the move.
05
Install applications and hand over
The desktop applications are deployed, sign-in is confirmed for each person, and your team gets the documentation and support contacts they need.
Questions buyers ask
Can I install the Office applications on more than one device?
Yes. Each Business Standard license covers installation on multiple devices per user — typically a work computer, a home computer, a tablet and a phone. The license follows the person, not the machine.
Does Business Standard include company email on my own domain?
Yes. Each user gets a mailbox on your own domain with calendar, contacts and spam and malware filtering included. If you already own a domain, it moves across; if not, we help you register one.
What happens to my existing email when we migrate?
Existing mail, calendars and contacts are migrated to the new mailboxes. The move follows an assessment, a pilot group and a scheduled cutover, so mail keeps flowing throughout and the final switch happens around your business hours.
How many users can be on Business Standard?
Up to 300. Past that, the enterprise plans such as E3 remove the seat ceiling. If you are approaching 300 users, it is worth planning the transition before you hit it.
Can we mix plans across our organization?
Yes, and most organizations do. Frontline or browser-only staff can sit on Business Basic while office staff use Business Standard, and anyone handling sensitive data or managed devices can be moved to Business Premium. We map plans to roles as part of the quote.
Is this the same price as buying directly from Microsoft?
We quote from Microsoft US commercial list prices. The difference is that your licenses come with a partner who migrates, deploys and supports them, and who reviews the plan mix with you at renewal rather than letting it drift.
Can we add Copilot to Business Standard later?
Yes. Microsoft 365 Copilot requires a qualifying base plan, and Business Standard qualifies. Before rolling it out we review data permissions and sharing settings so Copilot only surfaces what each person should already be able to see.
Not sure this is the right plan?
Send us your current licenses and user count. We will map the right plan mix and confirm pricing before anything is ordered.
